Default Honda Oil = What?

I just got my new S2000 and need to get a quart of oil in case I have some burning while the car is breaking-in. The manual says to use Honda Motor Oil (of course). I know Honda doesn't make oil, so which oil out there is the same thing as Honda Motor Oil? I see no need to pay extra when it's really just the same thing with a new name.

Thanks for the information. I was at K-Mart a few days ago buying oil for my Altima and noticed that the Exxon Superflow bottle looks very similar to the Mobil 1 bottle. In fact, the cap is exactly the same except the color. Closer inspection of the back label showed that they have the same address listed on them. I wonder if Exxon Superflow and Mobile 1 are now the same since Exxon and Mobile merged. Does anyone know?

Use any high quality motor oil in the correct viscosity, specifically AVOIDING synthetic oils. You are wise to be prepared to add oil. All owners should check their oil reguarly - every fill up.

BTW, Mobil 1 IS synthetic, so the oil used by Honda is NOT relabeled Mobil 1.

?huh? Do you have inside information on Honda product contracts or just repeating a line from the board? Normally OEM contracts are awarded to the vendor with a relationship and a good bid, and only publicized with a brand name when there is a marketing agreement. I am not at all convinced it is a Mobil oil at all. Any motor oil meeting the stated SAE SJ standards meets Honda requirements (and may even be Honda oil).

Just follow the API rating in the owner's manual for oil and the correct SAE viscosity. It's not rocket science. Any name brand oil of the correct rating and SAE will do.
Oh, and you did know that you do NOT have to use Honda air in the tires?
