Default Jack Points - strange I need to ask

I've worked on so many cars...but I'm not clear where the jack points on the outer frame are located. I found a PDF but its really not clear and I cannot tell on the vehicle if its the correct spot. I am jacking up the front and wanted to add stands on the outer frame while I change tranny fluid etc. (jacking the back on diff and using the subframe to hold the stands)

I tried to search but jack points brings up 20 pages of threads.

thanks
Jim

Hi Jim, I typically use the frame rails and a rubber pad on the jack. It's only about 6" further back from the pinch points and a flatter surface for full contact.

Thanks. I will go look. So basically about 6" inside from the outside body behind the front wheel. I am certain that will be obvious when I lean down and take a look.

thx

Once you get under there, youll see the frame rails towards the inside of the car. They curve up into the floor as they get closer to the front of the car. Should be an obvious (and annoying) jack point. I always have to jack my car way up to get my jackstands to fit on the lowest setting on my 1" lowered car.

Another S2ki member made this video a while ago, which is pretty useful:

look for the metal frame rail that is twice as thick as the surrounding areas once you are 6-12 inches from the ends, it is reinforced to support the weight so that is why it is thicker metal, if you place the jack on the thinner metal it will bend. Once you look for the thicker reinforced metal sections of the rail it will be obvious how they stick out.
