Just found on magnetic drain plug

Help,

I just drained my oil and found this bolt attached to the end of my magnetic drain bolt. I have scoured my Helm's manual and cannot figure out where it goes or came from. It measures 14mm long x 5mm in diameter, has 2 holes near the threaded head and appears to have a spring in the shaft with a ball bearing in the tip. At first I thought it was an oil jet bolt but it has an allen head rather than flared nut. The car is a 2006 AP2. Did Honda change the bolt and this is an oil jet bolt? Also, this bolt came out in perfect shape and there were no shavings on the magnet and no other metal showed up in the drain pan.

Thanks,

That's from your Timing Chain Tensioner.
And it's bad news you found in your oil pan!
It's supposed to be in the threaded hole with the 2 dimples.

I guess its time to remove your TCT and:
#1 put it back in and re-do the dimples - with a small punch.
(I wouldn't use Loctite as that bolt is a valve with a small ball & spring and the Loctite may end up in the valve or in an oil line in the housing unless you know how to handle Loctite.)
#2 get a new TCT if you don't trust it.

:eek3: wow............you just dodged a bullet. My t-chain prolly would have flown through the hood if that happened to me. No point in buying a lotto ticket or anything. All your good luck just got used up for a while. :)

yeah, that thing is from the TCT.
Happened before.

good news is it probably just fell straight down into the oil pan without contacting much.

id just replace the tct.

Thanks for all the help. That's exactly what it was but not from the TCT I had installed. It was from the one just replaced. I had the car in for some work and the when they finished the car started making the TCT's gone noise. I went and grabbed one for him to replace. He must not have noticed that bolt gone.

There's no way to find out if my bolt fell off my TCT? I'm not having any TCT ticking noises.
