MOTOR SWAP

Hey im doing an engine swap on my s2k because i blew my motor. I was talking to my mechanic, and he is telling me that its going to cost me about 1500 dollars, and he has been taking his sweet time as if it is not one of his top priorities. He has had the car for about a month, and he bearly has the engine in. I went yesterday to see the progress and he says its going to take another 3 weeks. He originally quoted me at 950, and he jacked the price up and he is taking a long time.

So what do you guys think it should be, and how long do you think it usually takes to do this kind of swap?

what would you guys do.

be more detail, is he complete long block swap ( meaning , the other engine comes with IM/ AC / WAter pump. or just the bare engine and the mechanic need to transfer all that to the new engine?

a full engine swap shoudl not take more than 2 days.

it took me 2 days and 1/2.. that because i was doing the turbo kit too.

two and a half days at a $75 labor rate is $1500...

I know guys that will swap the motor out in our cars for 500 bucks. There is plenty of space in there and its fairly plug and play.

If he's doing the entire engine swap - $1500 is a good ballpark figure. However, it shouldn't take him ~2 months to knock it out.
Depending on the number of jobs in his shop - I'd say a week, maybe two weeks max would be acceptable. He can't justify jacking up the labor, unless there

you guys he bought some engine mounts . i was think of taking 1500 in cash and giving it to him and telling him when the money runs out to stop the work and ill finish it with a couple of my buddys , is that a good idea

[QUOTE=slipstream444,Oct 30 2007, 11:59 PM] If he quoted you $950 labor - he's got to stick to that unless there

:ponder: I don't think so. He should finish it for that price. Make sure he put in the top engine bolt on the tranny.
