MY02 Reg to Synthetic Motor Oil
Sup guys,
I just purchased this car recently and the original owner just got an oil change at the dealership, but this weekend I'm thinking of changing all the oils (tranny, differential). I was thinking maybe i should also do the engine oil to syn. After draining the engine oil and adding the syn. would this mix be bad for the car (having one syn and little bit of regular motor oil in there)? Also any recommendation on the engine oil & oil filter? I have 2 cases of 5w30 MobilOne's in my garage from my previous car (99HondaPrelude). Also suggentions on differential and tranny oil? Thanks!

Mobile1 Non-Synthetic 10w30... synthetic is no good for hondas. so i have heard from my tech friends @ Honda, and i trust they are correct. I also use 75w90 Mobile1 Diff fluid.

You'll have no problems switching over to synthetic motor oil, which I recomend you do. As of right now, the most popular tranny fluid is Friction Modified AC Delco/GM Synchromesh, the most popular diff fluid is LE-607. Search around the board a bit for all the info you'll need.

There is no such thing as Mobil 1 non-synthetic. There is Mobil Drive Clean, which is what Honda repackages for sale as their house brand. Does anyone else see a big conflict of interest in the tech's "unbiased" recommendation?
Drive Clean is covered in the analysis of 10w30's posted in the Oil Journals. It is only OK. Much better choices exist in non-synthetic oils, such as Motocraft's terrific new 10w30 using GIII base stocks - if it were Castrol, they would call it Syntec.
All this is covered and is old ground. If you change oil a lot, go with something like Motorcraft 10w30. If you do not, consider the extended drain capability of the better synthetics. That pretty much is where we ended at in every previous laborious, hundred post thread on this topic. Changing M1 every 2-3k miles is a complete waste of money, unless you only drive that much in a year, when a 6 month change is needed no matter what you use, since the possibility of acidity and corrosion rear their ugly heads when oil sits without thermal cycling now and then.

I run Mobil 1 syn amd i change my oil every 3000miles withoug fail. Why would you consider this a waste of money. Is there a better performing oil that i should be using? I also run the Hamp filter if that makes a difference.
