I just spoke with someone about removing the baffles from inside the air box to get better air flow and a tad bit more horsepower as well as a throatier sound. has anyone heard of this before or done it? if so any pictures would be greatly appreciated also, does it harm the engine? aLso, he mentioned a air cover in the very front part of the engine? anyone know about this?

skip all that crap and get a k&n FIPK. save you a lot of headaches and will keep your oem intake in stock condition if ever needed later

Yes, this has been done before, but conclusions are that it really doesn't do much. A lot have done it for a sound change, but even then it's debatable as to whether there is any difference compared to unmodded. This will not harm the engine in any way. I've run it both ways and I've never felt any difference, I didn't even notice a differeence in sound. I'm back to the full oem factory box with the partition. While monitoring intake air temps the one thing I've noticed is that slower air velocity on this car means higher intake temps with the stock intake system.

I've recently added a J's Racing snorkel and kept the factory partition within the box to keep velocities as high as possible. IMO, removing the partition is going to slow air down and it could have more chance of heating up. One small change I've made to the oem box is to block the resonator chamber opening with a piece of plastic and some sealant, that part of the intake box tends to be the hottest section of the system probably due to it's location near the rad fan. I'm not saying any intake setup is better than any other , just saying what I've tried on my car.
