Default Need a power steering unit

My '01 has just a tick over 240,000 miles on it, and the electronic power steering unit is starting to die. According to our local dealership, Honda no longer manufactures these precious little boxes, so I need to look elsewhere.

Any suggestions on a third-party replacement?

Thanks!

How do you know it's the control module and not the torque sensor? Tq sensor fault will manifest as shaky inconsistent steering. Sometimes turning left or right is incredibly easy while you have no assist the opposite direction. Or the steering wheel will shake with no movement. Or shake when you turn too fast or at a specific angle.

I am having issues with my torque sensor but the replacement issue is the same, Honda no longer makes them. The only replacement parts I found was the entire steering rack including the torque sensor at Rock Auto. I believe the entire refurb'd rack and sensor is less than $300 which cheaper than just a sensor from Honda assuming you could get one. I wish someone would refurb and sell torque sensors. Curious to know if anyone has ever tried an AP2 sensor on an AP1 rack?

Ap2 CR and Ap1 sensors are all interchanagble. It doesn't need replacing likely cleaning it will solve the issue. Deoxit D5 under the shaft seal, don't even have to take out the sensor from the car. Hose it down, then put some thick grease on the outside of the shaft seal.

The tq sensor is just a potentiometer for the electric steering motor.

I have a spare used AP2 sensor I cleaned, and was going to toss in my car until I cleaned my original one. Now it's just sitting in a zip lock bag.

In point of fact, I don't. The local dealership diagnosed it.

Good to know.

I'll ask about the torque sensor.

Is the torque sensor and angle sensor the same thing inside of the rack?

Torque sensor is in between the steering coupler and the rack.

Try eBay for EPS and/or torque sensor. For me it was the torque sensor but I replaced my entire rack 5x because i kept getting shit ones that were ****ed up, with some halfway bad advice from a mechanic who had good intentions and didn't want to deal with diagnostics like that. Also instead of bad EPS it could be torque sensor needs regreasing/cleaned or wires are damaged

If anybody needs it, I have a post about how to clean and lube (including specific products) the torque sensor in the s2000 Talk and Tech Facebook group.
