New tires and "heat cycling"

I just had my S02 PP installed yesterday and was wondering about the "heat cycling" process. I read a little blurb on the TIRERACK.com website and had a few questions?

Is heat cycling like a 'break in' period for tires?

Does the life of the tire get affected by improper heat cycling?
