Default Oil Consumption after Krank Vents and new

MY03, for the first 70,000 miles, my S consumed about 1/3 quart per 1,000 miles...or about 2 quarts per 6,000 miles (oil change interval for me).

after i installed krank vents, oil consumption dropped to about 1/10 quart per 1,000 miles...or about 1/2 quart per 6,000...which meant i never topped off with krank vents installed.

now the strange part...

i installed a new ap2 valve cover, and removed the krank vents.

oil consumption shot up to an insane 2 quarts per 1,000 miles. can you believe that!!! after another 500 miles, i was 1 quart low...so this was consistent.

i installed a breather filter for the breather pipe on the crankcase and plugged the intake breather. oil consumption is now about 1 quart per 500 miles...STILL A LOT.

what da heck is going on. I check the floor where i park, and there are no leaks...oil drain bolt and filter, valve cover, everywhere is spotless...no oil leak, so I'm certain the consumption is internal.

only hypothesis I can come up with is that the krank vents might have unseated my piston rings in some way when there was a vacuum during idle.

anybody want to participate in a research and remove their krank vents to see what happens to their oil consumption...?

anybody have any theories?

thats so weird.....

with my ap2 after 2000 miles and a track day my oil level warm was about 2-3 x's below full.

i mean i hit vtec like once a day but my oil consumption has never been that bad.

worst ive seen my car was at the low level warm after 4000 miles.

Do a leak down. It's probably the stem seals. Vtec motors eat them pretty quick.

I don't know what the differences are, but AP1 and AP2 valve covers have different part numbers. They may not be interchangeable.

if i have oil in my coolant, it is VERY minimal...definitely not the amount that I am consuming...besides, my coolant level lowers a bit every month or so.

yea,

i figure it's internal...

the strange part is that it happened EXACTLY, to the dot...of the krank vent removal, which leads me to believe it is related to the removal of the krank vent.

i'm talking EXACTLY right after i removed the krank vents. the strange part is that the consumption is WORSE than before I installed the krank vents, which implies the krank vents must have cause some sort of damage, perhaps un-seated the rings...

i've had the head rebuilt by alaniz exactly one year ago, got new valve guides...not sure where the stem seals are, but either way...a leakdown should show whether the consumption is from the stem/valves area or through the piston rings...

First off, You def. have a bad PCV valve on the valve cover.

Put the KVs on the AP2 setup you just got and test.

You can also test by rigging a quick and crude catch can setup. Just a temp setup, don't get too elaborate.

Make sure it's large too or you'll be blowing smoke all day.
