...but caution about non-linear oil usage per mileage. As oil gets older, it burns faster. So be careful about assuming it will go another 1700 for the other half quart. Don't let a low oil condition bite you. It only takes once...

Yeah, good point and very true. Oil breaks down and changes in usage.

Don't worry... I check my oil maybe every other day, lol ;D

I too haven't seen much of a difference between different types of oils so I tend to buy the cheapest full synthetic these days. I recently replaced the valve stem seals on my AP1 with 130k so I'm hoping that helps. I'll report back if it does...

Is that easily done/replaced? ...let's say while you're changing out the retainers anyways.

If you're changing out the valve retainers you will get 95% of the work done to do the valve stem seals. They are easily accessible and replaced once the valve spring is removed.

Use spark plug pliers and just twist and yank, clean up any old seal left behind and tap on new ones with a 10mm deep socket and a plastic hammer, or rubber mallet. Tap don't smash, also the seals are color coded from Honda, it's in the manual, but one seal is white and the other black, you can't put exhaust seals on the intake as the valve stems are different diameters. Mixing them will cause the engine to smoke heavily.
