You can try to hand tighten all the way of course but very few (none?) have the strength to get it to 7/8.

You got all the information you need now, I bet there are hundreds of videos with people doing it incorrectly, no need to waste your time on that.

^^ This, dont waste your time on those videos, if you are really in doubt, check the instructions on the side of the filter. Honda specified these numbers so the filter doesn't get shot off like a bottle rocket. Even the 7/8ths and torque are mentioned and can be seen in the gif I made earlier

As well as @flanders mentioned it s almost impossible to torque it by hand. You have to keep it moving, once you get to 3/8ths turn don't stop until you reach 7/8. Keeping momentum is the only way I can do it by hand with a grippy glove on. If I stop before 7/8ths I can't tighten it all the way and have to grab a tool as I cant restart the momentum because friction.

The spec is 15 to 18LB-FT OR 7/8 turn.

Hell no, you cannot get there by hand.

If you can, you probably did it wrong OR you should dial 911 about your hands.

Strap wrench works fine. Use 7/8 turn as a guide. Hopefully, you are able to "feel" out 18LB-FT using your handle length.

Or buy the Honda tool for $30 and use a torque wrench.

This only works for the factory Honda filter as it is not a traditional type of filter.

Use your torque wrench with the oil filter wrench. So much easier than all that complicated math and trying to figure out when to start counting the rotation or when the gasket touches or .... 16 lbf-ft

The CTA Tools A257 oil filter wrench has a 3/8" socket on it and is like 6 bucks at AutoZone, you don't need a $30 Honda-branded tool. Buy the wrench the same place you got the oil.

You must use the specific oil filter for this car. Note Jason's car had some sort of Brand X filter he removed.

I'm kinda surprised there is no video on YouTube showing someone doing the filter install the proper way seems like something that easily can be screwed up. I imagine there are tons of S2K's out there that went to oil change places and the techs didnt do the "7/8 turn" method.

The OEM filter is 3-inch (76mm), 15 flutes. I just one of these and use a torque wrench.
