Because there are still people (in 2019) who believe that they can get this thing tight enough by hand, and just have to say something contrary when actual instructions are posted.
It would be like if someone asked, "how do I inflate my tire", and someone else replied with, "I've been inflating with my lungs like a beach ball for 800 years ZERO problems" just to make some pointless argument.

On the contrary, too much UNDERthinking (I agree with your principle, just emphasizing it).
It looks like every other filter ever made, so too many people treat it like every other filter, despite the clear instructions, and despite the visually subtle, but vitally important design difference.
