I'll report back after a more meaningful amount of real-world testing has been done.
I've now driven my S2000 for about 500 miles since I installed the paperboard "shim" under my VTEC solenoid housing top plate O-ring, including about 100 miles on a road course (a track that includes a long banked turn, PPIR in Fountain, CO).

I still have a very minor oil leak SOMEWHERE near the VTEC solenoid... there's a bit of oily wetness on it and under it when I check it. However, the massive oil leak I USED to have from the VTEC solenoid top plate—it'd splash oil all over the side of the engine bay and leave oil on the black-painted crossmember under the engine—is gone. Now there's no oil leaked onto the passenger-side engine bay wall or the crossmember.

I'm not sure if my VTEC top plate is still leaking a little, or if it's the TCT that's actually the source of the oil. Either way, the cereal box shim under the top plate O-ring has mostly eliminated my previous leak, or it's taken care of it entirely... I can't tell. For what it costs to do (nothing), it's worth a shot.

So far the only real fix for this seems to replace the unit. I'm using a gasket from a lower mileage one and while it did stop the 'leak' oil still seeps out as mist and collects dirt. a lot of these are on b/o. Billman, is on this fix, stay tuned.

HAte to bring up old thread, but yeah I have same leak. I drive a ap1 2000 with 115k miles. Has anyone came up with a legit fix? Or is my best route just buying a whole vtec solenoid unit?

This has been discussed so many times, they all seem to fail for one reason or another. I tried a while back finding a company who makes gasket to make me like 100 of these but it never went through. If anyone does have connections with such a company, seeing how common the problem is, they would definitely sell!

So i'm guessing a cereal box cardboard shim won't be a potential fire hazard? I'm planning on doing that fix myself.

i replaced mine with a new one. no more leak.

you could try to see if shops have used vtec solenoids lying around and can part the gasket out for you.

balladesports says they have some.

SO I noticed that the guys on Wheeler dealers replaced the above seal and ordered just the part from a packet face down .... Sent Ed a message on his Facebook fan page and hoping for a reply ... in the meantime...

Went on Ebay and Look what I found. -
