If you find worn bearings - you have to wonder why?

as soon as the plasti guage and torque angle attachment arrive I will check the bearings clearances - for now I can only prey that i'll be able to get the correct bearings to bring the clearances back into spec and get some oil pressure.
You don't have to remove the lower block to check rod bearings, lower block comes off for the mains.

The Plasti guage arrived today - finally

Also I got the torque angle guage and now I'm all set to give this a try.

So I am doing this right now - I took the first cap off with fingers crossed and to my surprise the bearing and crank looked pretty good

After torqueing the first cap back with some plasti guage I found the clearance to be 0.0015"

Here is a closer inspection the plastiguage squish looks pretty uniform across the surface. I will do them all twice just for good measurements.

My main question at this point is, since the other two bearings/rods are up and it would be nearly impossible to lay plasti guage up inside the block past the lower block (I'm doing this on my back -engine inside the car) would it be ok to rotate the crank once the previously check caps are torqued back to spec (finished the two middle rods that are down)

Yes. Don't leave anything on bearing or crank. Use motor oil or assembly lube (debateable).

what should I use to remove the plasti guage from the bearings and crank? ive noticed that even using my nail scratched the bearing surface

edit: sorry I just read your post above this - ill try engine oil.

All four rod bearings are the same 0.0015" clearance according to plastiguage check.

There is a bit of what looks like tiny pitting on the bearings in the lower part of the bearing half, is this normal wear? This bearing measures 0.0015" clearance but I'm abit concerned with the small pitting in the one spot

And now I don't know what to do, Can it be possible that the oil level was just reading incorrectly as I wasn't awair the dipstick reads true value on oneside and incorrect on the other side.. I sure feel a bit like a dipstick myself.

Sorry I have no advice to offer. But you might as well as replace the oil banjo bolts if they haven't been replaced with the updated ones.

Ideally you should remove the PLASTIGAUGE stripe with a clean oily cloth or industrial de-greasing solvent, but users may be assured that any PLASTIGAUGE left behind is oil soluble and cannot harm the engine in any way.

That's totally normal bearing scuffing, well it's definitely not the rods, nor the pump, with the rods being perfect, I'm guessing the mains will be the same way.
