Default Oil for S2000 with 62K miles

I just bought my 2005 with 62K miles. I have no idea what type of oil has been used during it's life. There is an oil change sticker that indicates Castrol 5W-30 but doesn't say what type of Castrol. Can I use synthetic now? If not, what is the best oil I should use?

i would stick with synthetic. depending on where you live, you should use 5w-30 or 10w-30. i just changed my oil and used mobil 1 full synthetic. you have an ap2, so you will not be burning a lot of oil like some ap1's do. if you can spend a little more i think amsoil is also considered a favorite. all oils will have good reviews and bad reviews. stick with changing the oil when you should as well as the filter

you can buy your oil filters and crush washers through them for cheaper. i also changed my cabin filter, and i recommend you change all your fluids. gl.

I am confused by your comment "stick with synthetic"? I have no reason to believe that synthetic has EVER been used on this car. The question is: Is is OK to start using it now? I have read things that say no.

You should not have any problems with leaks if that is your concern. You should be okay with synthetic. Oil pan gasket should be fine at that mileage.

okay well, since you dont know what was used, you have to take a chance, either use synthetic or dont. i would "stick with synthetic" on your next oil change.

Pick a good brand of full syn and stick with it.Since the car is NEW to you,change all of these and establish a good service baseline.Here is what I use.My 03S has 78k miles...one owner.

Oil= Penn Ultra 5-30
Oil Filter= Wix 51334
Air Filter=K&N or go to a CAI
Trans=Amsoil 5-30 Syn Man trans
Diff=Amsoil 75-90 Severe Gear
Brake/Clutch=Prestone Dot4
Coolant=Prestone 50/50
Plugs=NGK BKR7E

Just a few suggestions and Welcome to club S2k.

Thanks everyone. I understand now. I guess I was confused about the comments about waiting until 10K miles to START synthetic oil to mean I shouldn't start it after that.
