Question OIL Smell In Car And Puffs A Little Blue Smoke

Hey guys,

I'm brand new to the honda s2000 game so I apologize if i'm asking a dumb question. So i've noticed after storing my car over winter when i come to a stop i smell an oil smell (pretty strong smell) and apparently earlier today a buddy asked to step on it to see if it'd puff and blue or white smoke, and according to him before i stepped on it, it puffed a little of blue smoke?

Sorry guys if this questions been asked, definitely mechanically inclined and trying to figure out what's going on.

Thanks a lot for all your help today!

We would assume an AP1?

The do burn a little oil and you should keep a good eye on the dipstick until you have a good baseline for oil consumption.

Early cars seem to benefit from specific motor oils as some seem to burn/blow easier than others. Go thru the threads and see what works for others. All I can recall is that Mobile 1 was noted for excessive blow-by.

I would use a 10/40 high mileage to see if that helped on the oil consumption. Also since your new to the S2000, be sure to check BOTH SIDES of the dip stick. One side can show full and the other side very low or NO OIL. Always go with the side that shows low and add oil to keep it full. Again the 10/40 high mileage should help

thanks I'll have to try that didn't think 155k kms was considered high but will look into it.

The oil smell isn't normal even with a puff of blue smoke. It's possible you have a leaky head gasket or some other minor leak that hits your exhaust manifold. Take a look under the hood and under the engine to see if there are any obvious leaks.

By head gasket you of course meant valve cover aka cam cover gasket. I'm sure it was just a typo. For the OP, the head gasket won't cause an oil leak, and would be a whole different league of level of effort to replace.
