over rev damage

how do you go about check for any over rev damage? do you gotta pull the head off and physically check valves and springs and all that good stuff.

correct me if im wrong, but if your car is running fine now, i dont think you have much to worry about.

all overrev damage i've ever seen or heard of usually kill the motor right then and there, right?

freshs2k Jan 24, 2006 05:14 PM

my car runs great just kinda of a peace of mind thing. and are there any symtoms i should be looking forward to seeing

xviper Jan 24, 2006 06:05 PM

A bent valve may affect compression. There can also be cracked valve spring retainers.

RED MX5 Jan 24, 2006 08:42 PM

Correct. Cracked retainers won't cause an immediate problem, so the only way to detect them is by taking a look.

ok so far get a compression test and how do i check to see if anything is cracked

Why don't you tell us what happened exactly that you would suspect you have over-rev damage? Maybe you're just freaked over nothing.

yeah, if hes that worried, i can only guess a 3-2 shift instead of 3-4 :(

and for all of those that would ever remove a rev limiter from a car, never do that. i bought my h22 civic from a guy that apparently had no rev limiter, my fualt for not asking and not checkiong, so i missed third gear and reved to the moon....bent every exhast valve in the head. man that sucked, but took the head off, replaced the valves, and all was well. rev limiters save that kinda hastle, but a mishift will still cause problems. hope all is well.

5-4 some how became 5-2 for a split second and then i let off maybe i am worried about nothing maybe
