Over-Rev and now a ticking sound
#61
I meant turn over the engine with the valve cover off. not start the car. Might still make a mess though. I have never done it.
Like I said earlier, I think the frequency of the noise is way too high to be something like rod knock, or even valves. Those things would just make one vibration/click per stroke of the engine(or less for valves).
I would lean towards taking the timing chain cover off, or looking at accessories.

FOLLOW-UP/ Getting closer to Solution SOLUTION????
- I reinstalled oil pan and refilled car with oil.
- Couldn't figure out how to remove intake manifold so put an endoscope to look into the intake manifold.
- Couldn't see much but of what I could it all looked clean
- Turned the car on .... Tick/BUZZ still there
- Put on my stethoscope to listen.....
- Sound most prominent right behind the ALTERNATOR??
- Disconnected the accessory belt turned car on and..... she sounds like a sowing machine--back to normal....
- Alternator is was purchased new about ~ 7 months ago from auto-zone when the OEM went bad.
- Could I be so lucky?
- Stay tuned.

Hopefully, t was just a bad alternator? I've had bad luck with electrical parts from AutoZone. A few years ago, I bought a replacement alternator for an '02 Toyota Siena. Only a few months later it died while we were in Columbia, Missouri to move my daughter into a college apartment. I had to change it in an O'Reilly's parking lot. I also replaced an O2 sensor on the same vehicle with one from AutoZone and it was bad out of the box.

Follow-UP:
- Did two track days this past weekend with Temps ~ 100F on Friday
- Set multiple new PBs with old tires and track temps definitely above 100F.
- Car felt great.
- To add removing passenger seat was worth ~ 1 second at that track.
- Will probably end up removing AC and Radio since this car is mostly track now (driven there and back).
- Only loose end is Oil Analysis.
