overtorqued?
 

so i did a tranny fluid change tonight and replaced with some GM synchromesh (which works swimmingly - thank you everyone)


but I'm not much of a genious and I think i overtorqued the drain bolt, the crush washer got a little bent out of shape, but didnt crack. there is no leakage so far and everything is running fabulous. But i wanted to know if there was any issues that could evolve from not properly torqueing either of the two bolts involved in the tranny fluid change???

just snug it a little tight. maybe like 30ft lbs

If you overtorqued those bolts, or any bolts for that matter, you run the risk of stripping the threads in the holes. You would know if it is stripped if you can only tighten it a certain amount before it becomes loose again. This does not sound like the case, so you're fine. Be careful in the future :thumbup:

I overtorqued the oil drain bolt on my block once.. I wasn't paying attention, the torque wrench wasn't tightened down, and I probably hit it up 45-50ft-lbs. Haven't had a problem.

what do you mean by bent out of shape?

that doesn't sound good...

it got a little mishapen, as in not perfectly round. I took it back off to make sure i didnt strip anything and it came off fine, and there were no cracks, and its still holding a seal, i just assume next time i change it i'll need a new one, just to be careful. Nothing seems to be wrong right now, everything is working great. I was just making sure that i wasnt going to have any permanent damage to anything

that washer is there for a reason. It seems to have saved the threads.

Tighten it till it strips, then back it off a 1/4 turn.

Honda recommends changing out the crush washers each time anyway. However, many people don't and have no problems. If it's not leaking, it's fine. If it's deformed, I'd replace it next time. ;)
