Petrol/Gas strong smell!
Hi everyone! I need a little help here. We went for a drive on the highest road in Slovenia (Mangart) and when i reached the top i smelled petrol/gas....raw gasoline behind the car. I stopped and inspected the situation. No in-car smell, no smell in the trunk, only on the left rear side of the car under wheel well. Almost no smel around gas cap but the smell was all over the place so i couldnt tell 100% it wasnt from the cap. I oppened tha cap and alot of pressure went out and when i looked inside it looked like the gas was boiling :/. Anyway this happened last year on the same road. Slow climbing in second and first gear.
Gas cap is ok, the seal is like new and i have no CEL. Car runs fine.
Did this happen to anyone else? Mybe its the elevation or something..... We drove in a group of cars.....2 other cars also had similar problem (mazda mx5)
S2000 AP1 year 2000
New engine (block assy 2009 f20c)
Burns 0 oil.
Passes emissions with no problem.
Fuel consumption is normal.

Since other cars also had the "problem" it could just be because of elevation.

Was your gas tank close to full when you started the journey?
When you fill your car at the gas station do you stop filling on the first click, or do you top it up a couple of times more? (do not do this)
Sounds like your EVAP canister (also called charcoal canister) is saturated and can't keep up absorbing the added fuel fumes created at the lower atmospheric pressure (2072m above the sea).
I think the only real solution is to replace the EVAP can.
