pops out of 2nd

Hey guys,

So i know this has been an issue for the first gen AP2 cars. I saw a thread about this a while ago but noone there seemed to have a fix other than to change the transmission fluid to AMSOIL and then go through each gear a bit. I've done that however still get my shifter popping out at deceleration in 2nd gear.I assume the TSB for this issue isnt covered by Honda anymore (mines a 2005) but if it is then maybe i should take the car there to get it looked at? Does anyone know what causes the issue and what is usually done to fix it?

Thanks

Bad second gear synchro, need to pull the transmission apart and replace the 2nd gear gearset.

It is cheaper to buy a used AP2 transmission.

Might be cheaper, but it's a gamble. You don't know if you bought a used transmission with a bad synchro.

Damn. Is this something that should be done ASAP? Or just dont downshift to 2nd to make a turn and i should be ok?

A bad syncro cannot cause gear pop-out.

It is either a bent fork (unlikely) or rounded teeth on the gear collar (most likely). Either way the trans has to come apart.

What would be the fix for this? Is the gear collar a replacable part? I guess my previous question still applies, is this an ASAP fix or a, i can wait on it fix. THis is my daily driver and so i do want to make sure the car is...daily drivable lol

Billman is right, I misspoke as to actual damaged part. Still probably 2nd gear gearset to fix.

Yes, part of the gearset, where are you located?

California. If this is something that needs to be taken care of ASAP i can have Blacktrax do it as i live down the street from them.

You can live with it as long as you can stand it. Hold it in place during decel, etc. Its only gonna get worse, but its not doing more damage to other parts.

If you go through the labor to crack it ipen to fix it, you'll want to replace most of the bearings, etc.

What I think you should do. Live with it while you look for a deal on a good used trans, hopefully from someone local you can trust, etc.
