Possible VTEC problems

I was on the freeway today, and the s was hesitating in vtec. then it dropped down in rmp just like if you over rev the car when it is cold. the car now will not go over 6000-6500 rpms in any gear. Do you think it is the vtec valve solenoid? Where is it located and how hard is it to replace?

i meant rpm, sorry for the spelling

first thing would be to check your oil, and also to verify that the car is warmed up properly before trying to vtec.

your vtec solenoid is located on the passenger side of the cylinder head. when you open the hood and you are looking at the engine bay it is on the left side of the cylinder head, just above the cam chain tensioner( you'll get to know that part soon enough). replacing it, if needed, is a simple 5 to 10 minute task.
also, if you don't have at least three bars on your temperature gauge, then the vtec will not engage. i guess it's a safety device.

the green circle is circling a bolt on the vtec not the entire assembly.

ShotgunJimmy's suggestion to check the oil is a good one.

The VTEC system is operated by oil pressure. Not enough oil and VTEC doesn't work.

And if the computer notices that happening, it'll rev limit you until the error codes are cleared.

I had this happen to me while driving in my previous car, an Integra GSR. Adding oil and resetting the error codes fixed the problem then.

get to a local autozone, ask for an engine scanner and simply plug it in and clear your code. if your not to sure how to use it, just ask the guys or girls who work there. for my 2000 model the plug in is located on the passenger side under the dash.

oh yah, it's free to use. give them your id to hold on to and use it to clear the code.
