In the process of my clutch install

Thanks to this site, I've obtained some great information. I'm currently in the process of changing out my clutch for an AP1. I also bought a new knock sensor to replace the broken one. (previous owner did a clutch install and must've broken it.) I was under the car and noticed a wire that is cut. The wire is red with a blue stripe, posted below. Before my clutch install attempt, there were two CELs (knock sensor and air pump). Lastly, I'm having a hard time taking the steering joint apart. This is under the car and right next to the driver's side wheel, correct? I've taking the lower joint bolt out and loosened the upper joint bolt but can't 'Disconnect the steering joint from the gear box.'

So, my questions are:

1) Is replacing the knock sensor easier from below the car?(Car is on jackstands now.) I still have not located this yet.(Is the knock sensor connected to a wire?)
2) What is this 'red/blue' wire? What does it connect to?
3) Does the steering joint HAVE to be disconnected in order to lower and remove the transmission?

thanks in advance.

Don't know about the wire but yes, the steering coupling must be loose to allow the subframe to drop. Loosen both bolts.

I've already taken the bolt loose but the steering joint won't disconnect. I can also see a little bit of rust on the steering joint. Is there a method to easily disconnect the steering joint?

Make sure the pull the bolt out. If it's still in there it's resting in a groove that will hold it up.

The knock sensor is on the block right behind the intake manifold, you should see it when you remove the alternator, there is a wire that plugs into it. Be careful because I also broke mine from my clutch install. The senor is in the way of one top starter bolt. I found it easier to get to knock sensor from the top of the car and not from below.

The steering joints have to come apart for the motor and trans to drop. Take a hammer and lightly tap on the joints, that should help it come apart.

Not sure what the wires are, I'm at work and can't see the pictures from my work computer. Hope that helps and good luck.

:iagree: Mine didn't come loose until I sprayed it with some penetrant. Use a small hammer and tap it.

thanks for the tip on the steering joint. Now, if only I could figure out what that red/blue wire is. The car runs fine with the exception of the knock sensor and air pump CELs.

I'm looking at this broken wire and the only possible place for it is the knock sensor. Does anyone have a wiring diagram that can confirm this? Also, where can I find a connector that fits into the knock sensor?
