Raise compression or get new camshafts??
 

I can't decide whether to raise the compressoin with new pistons and a new head gasket, or to just drop in new camshafts. What would give me more power?? It sounds like raising the compression would, but i'm no expert. What would be cheaper?? Cams are 1300 for toda's, who knows how much for 4IGS2000's friends cams. Pistons and a head gasket is a little over a grand, but install would be more. W/ cams i can run pump gas, with the pistons and head gasket i need something better. Which will build a stronger engine? Which will last longer, better torque curve? Any help appreciated, thnx.

Thats what i thought too, but don't jdm s2000's have 267hp or something????? I'm pretty sure the only difference in the two is compession..., and thats 27hp! More comments plz!

I thought the JDM's thinner head gasket was the only difference (since they run higher octane). When you estimate costs don't forget the cost of eternally running race gas or octane boost additives with any higher compression. That can add up fast.

As for the gas price, i allready thought of that. As far as compression goes. The head gasket raises the compression by .3, the pistons by .7? i think.

JDM=247, not 267. Not worth the effort to tear apart the engine for a lousy .7 bump in CR.

hmm.. though I head that with proper tuning (ie AEM or other) that you could run almost 12:1 compression on 93 octane fuel safely?? Isn't TODA supposed to come out with some updated cams pretty soon?

Yep, toda's supposed to be introducing even more aggressive cams. I researched it and 247hp is right for a jdm S, so i'm gonna definetly do the cams. Thnx everybody.

I just raised compression w/ the spoon head gasket and swapped out my exhaust springs in prep for cams in a few months. Dyno tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes.
