Default Rattle at start up??? ('03 AP1 with 93K miles)

Like the title says, I have a 2003 with 93K miles. All stock with no mods and original owner. All regular maintenance is up to date and fresh oil. I replaced the TCT (Honda OE) about a week ago thinking the noise was from that. Started hearing it again yesterday and a couple times today. The noise is a rapid rattling that lasts only about a second. Seems to be mainly on a cold start. Only does it once and cannot recreate it until it has sat for a while. Doesn't do it every time but more often than not. Any ideas???

I believe general consensus is that it's the starter and that it's fine. Mine does this as well.

The starter does not rattle, it grinds upon release of the button.

Sounds like tensioner based on description, post a sound clip. The two sounds are nothing alike.

It has a rattlesnake sound upon startup but only happens when cold and not every cold start? Mine does the same and was told it was the TCT by another member, fairly new OEM TCT at that.

Will replace it once it gets to be consistently noisy with one from the man above. Billman has the best TCT's on the market. Good luck.

Unless I'm mistaken, a very high-frequency rattle for half a second at start-up is likely the starter grinding, not the TCT. Actually, I'm not sure I've read about a sure-fire way to fix the starter noise, short of replacing it. TCT noise lasts a while (several seconds or minutes)

It does last a couple seconds and is not high frequency, only on cold startup(very first of the day) and never on second, third ....... or any other startup during the same day.

May be pistons, until a larger film of oil gets onto the bores.
I try to give a few flicks on the starter button without starting first thing to get oil pressure to the parts needed.

Mine does the same thing only when it is cold out. TCT was replaced and I believe its the starter grinding on startup. What temp is it outside when you are starting it?

I had it too, it will get more frequent. Pull the downstream o2 sensor, check to see that the cat converter core isn't bouncing around. Mine was.
