Which gun did you use?

Milwaukee has a 1/2 gun Fuel M18 that is 1400 ft/lbs and nothing can stop it.

It's the 2759b-20, it's marketed as a compact 1/2 impact, maxing out only to 220 ft-lbs. I bought to use in tight spaces. I had no idea the axle nut was THIS tight!

The 3/4 model I ordered is rated 1,500 ft-lbs of nut busting force! So it should be able to remove the axle nut!

Geez, the Milwaukee high torque 1/2 is no joke. Took off that nut in 2 seconds!

Now, torquing it 60 degrees past the original location, that's another store LOL!

I was experiencing the metallic chirp from the rear drivers side at low speeds when changing directions. I used my Milwaukee mid-torque to remove the axel nuts. I used my torque wrench and then 1/2 breaker bar for tightening. I was surprised to see the the noisy side axel go past the original staking position with my torque wrench maxed out at only 150. I then tightened it as much as I could with the breaker bar. The other side seemed to tighten as expected with the torque wrench and then I moved it as much as I could.

In the end I moved the noisy side about 60 degrees from its original position and the quiet side about 22 degrees. This sounds less than some of the recommendations, but my noise is gone now.

Each flat on the nut is 60°. How did you stake the nut at +22°? (I'm probably missing something obvious )

At least on my car there's a circular lip on the bolt that you stake so the orientation of the flats doesnt matter.

Just did this yesterday with a 3/4 drive 40” breaker bar. No impact wrench needed.

We used an impact gun to take off an axle nut and the axle snout snapped off inside the nut. Replacing with an non oemaxle... hope the torque isn't too much !

Replaced hub/bearing/axle and torqued to 180ft lb as advised. Used a 30" breaker bar and the extension handle from a big floor jack (about 30"), effectively 32-36" of extension from the socket and it was easy to do the 60 deg tighten. Needed an assistant to hold the socket so as to avoid hitting the car with the whole extension LOL

Next axle this weekend.

If you don't have an impact gun or a jack handle big enough, and want to be cheap like me, do this. Go to Lowe's plumbing section and look for black/galvanized pipe. 4 ft should be long enough. For diameter I go with 1" or 1-1/4". Use it to loosen and tighten. Return to store afterward.

I really recommend using 3/4" drive socket and breaker bar. My 1/2" bar was flexing so much I was afraid it would snap at the joint.

Another tip for staking the nut. I use a big flat head screwdriver; put a nice clean dent on it.

Also, take some nail polish instead of a black Sharpie to mark the 60 degrees.
