Rebuilding Hydro locked Engine
 

I hydro locked my car last month and i got it to the shop and they gave me an estimate of $75 and hour and to rebuild it will take roughly 25 hours, so they are charging me $1850 in labor. Is this a fair price?

They are going to take the engine out, figure out whats wrong with it, and replace whatever is screwed... hoping i dont need an entirely new engine

i would buy a new engine at that point, spend 10 hrs changing it. New eng is 2900.

If an engine is hydrolocked you can be pretty sure parts are stuffed internally. Your $1850 will blow out quite a bit by the time you're running again.

As Billman says, buy a new engine, or considering the contacts you have through this board, perhaps a low mileage secondhand one is an option.

did you pull the spark plugs and crank it to get the water out? check the oil? anything before giving it to the shop? i would at least have some diagnostics done before throwing away 2 grand

^ ^ ^ Lol yes. It's beyond an easy fix.

1850. Plus parts. For a build of a very compromised block. Add 850 for a crank. Plus rods. Piston May also be compromised.

They will get it in the door, find out the cost os way too much, and it will be on your plate.

You would save money by going to uhaul, and trailering it to me. You can wait for it, stay over one night :)

find a good used engine. I promise once that motor is apart the cost is going to go through the roof.

Heck, I expect you could fly me in for less. ;)
