Default Rocker Arm failure on track

So finally got back out there after an 11 month hiatus and some pretty significant changes to the car. Here are some details of my motor setup

31k miles on the clock
AEM infinity tuned by National Speed in Wilmington
AP2 intake retainer upgrade installed by a competent s2k mechanic (he's done a number of other retainer upgrades around the area for s2000 owners)
Berk headerback
k&n fpk
Amsoil Dominator 10w-30 racing oil
OE filter (always)

Well finally back from VIR and Sunday wasn't the greatest of track days for me. Saturday runs were great and I was loving the tuned power output. The car felt great. Got out there this morning and warmed the car on grid, did our slow paced warm up lap and then started our hot lap. We weren't half way through when the engine let go. I completed my 4th to 5th upshift and was north of 7500rpm when it sputtered and then shut down. I was towed back to paddock and took the valve cover off to find pieces of the rocker arm for cylinder 2 hanging out in the head, and with the car in neutral I am unable to turn the motor more than 90 degrees. I also cant get the spark plug out to bore scope it. Anyway, just wanted to add myself to the list of rocker arm failures. I'm sorry to see I'm not the only one:

Now the only question is to rebuild or do a K swap.

Really sorry to see that! Buy a used unopened F20 or rebuild yours with the best quality parts you can afford. Leave the K swap out

Similar thing happened to me last month, also at VIR. However, the bearing around my cylinder 3 intake VTEC rocker gave out.

Thats really strange, even more strange that the valve is still there with it's retainer. If the rocker arm takes a big enough hit to send it in pieces, you'd figure you'd have dropped a valve for sure.

Are you tuned and what oil were you running?

This fail was also on AEM Infinity and AEM Dominator https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-un...r-arm-1144455/
Not saying that^ has anything to do with it though. Seems to be quite a mystery.
Did you log the failure? Is that VTEC pin snapped in half?

Guess the snapped rockers actually saved the engine from more damage.

I was not tuned when the failure happened. Running 10w30 Castrol syntec.

If you got lucky and it's just the rocker, I have 7 spare rocker assemblies at this point.

If the spark plug is stuck there is most likely carnage down there

This is the same outcome with my 06 with 155k miles. It happened on the track during an upshift. Both exhaust valves on Cylinder 3 were destroyed. Seems they snapped off in the cylinder and the piston ate them. Sorry mate, but your motor is gone. My cylinder wall is scored. It could be honed out, but a rebuild is more expensive than a used one.
