Roll bar question '04 s2000

What function does the "roll bar" actually perform/assist?
Does it (a)affect the "speed" or "rate" of the lateral transition?

-or- (b)does it reduce/control the rate of body roll?

I had an '03 s2000 and I would like to "quicken" the lateral transition on my '04.
Will a stiffer roll bar achieve this?

Example:

Will the '03 and prior roll bar (stiffer) quicken my lateral transition?, and what other changes will I notice, ie, stiffer ride, reduced suspension compliance, etc.

Thanks for your help.

Are you sure you want to be asking about a rollbar? Sounds more like a sway bar question.

Assuming you mean anti-roll bar or swaybar, it reduces body roll by increasing roll stiffness. It doesn't control the rate of stiffness, it just adds to it.

Shock absorbers change the rate of roll...

Less compliance in the suspension and the tires will make the car respond quicker.

Yes, I mean sway bar.
So, if I increase the stiffness of the sway-bar will I gain faster lateral response? Yes?
I like the suspension compliance of the '04 but would like to increase(quicken) the lateral response to be more like my '03 s2000.

It sounds like I can achieve this by stiffening my sway bar.
Is this true?
I understand that less compliance in the tire/suspension set-up will also achieve this.
However I am curious as to what a stiffer sway-bar will do to my car.
Thanks again.

If I'm reading you right, you'll want stiffer sidewalls for the tires and/or stiffer bushings in the suspension for quicker response. The swaybar won't help that. You might want to check the alignment since those settings can cause lack of response, also, and is a cheap fix. I use the UK settings at 0 toe/-1.0 deg. camber front and 1/8" to 1/4" toe in/-2.0 degree camber rear. The toe settings could make a significant difference, depending on how they're set now.
