Rev,
I had a 85, GSL-SE (First generation of 13B engines) for 3 years. When it was new, I did not have to add any oil to the car unless I drove it very very hard. I would say the oil consumption was about the same as my S2000.
After 60K, I needed to add at least 1 quart every 1200-1500 miles. I was getting blue smoke from the car only during FULL acceleration (No smoke at the startup. Does this make sense?). I was beginning to be real concern. I never did find out why since the car got stolen and never recovered.

Had an '87 RX-7 and it didn't necessarily burn oil, it just used oil (one quart every 2,000 miles).
The oil would just end up in the exhaust stream (clean). Had a bike rack on it on several occasions and the bike parts that lined up with the exhaust pipes would get a nice coating of clean oil on them in a very short time.
