Question S2000 IACV Rebuild - Idle issue

Hi All.

I have cleaned my IACV which was pretty dirty and performed the rebuild by following the YouTube video which seemed straightforward. I have also performed the re-learn as required and by the book.

However, when the engine is cold, and would normally idle higher anyway, the rpm shoot ups to 2.5k and then drops to around 1500 where it then starts surging and being lumpy at around 1500 rpm. No big changes in RPM but you can hear the lumpy idle when it's resting.

The problem isn't there when the engine is at normal temp after a restart and does idle better.

I suspect I haven't set the IACV in the correct position when I rebuilt it, the video says to set the IACV so it is closed in chamber two. I am assuming this is the one immediately next to the coolant chamber or the end chamber?

Any advice would be appreciated!

The tab on the shaft must be timed so it faces the engine during assembly. If not, it will bind inside the motor assembly and throw the idle off.

Just as I wrote. Take it apart and check the tab on the shaft.

You can use a piece of paper towel stuffed into the rectangular hole to keep the shaft timed during reassembly.
