Serpentine Belt Fail
I recently went to use the AC in my S2k for the first time since purchasing it in February. Since the S is mostly my weekend toy I haven't really bothered to try it out because I always have the top down. I noticed that the air coming out was warm, and further noticed that the compressor wasn't clicking on. Looking closer I found that the previous owner had the serpentine belt routed to delete the AC. I guess she must have used a belt like on the CR, but have no idea how the dealership never noticed this when she took it in for services every 3k miles.
Unfortunately this discovery comes a day prior to leaving on the first road trip in the S, when I might not want the top down for five straight hours on a summer day. |
Just go buy another serpentine belt- it only takes about 45 seconds to change out.
And to answer your question about how the dealership never noticed- Most techs have no clue about the s and most half-ass their inspections anyways. Unless she took it in for a/c related problems they wouldn't even pay attention. |

You should be able to find a Goodyear Gator Back belt most anywhere. The DIY write-up is excellent, but plan on more than 45 minutes if you've never done it before. You'll be quicker the next time around. Also, it's a good idea to label the hoses you pull off of the airbox if you want to avoid throwing a code when you're done.
