Default Slight vibration during hard acceleration during right handed curves

Anyone notice mild vibrations coming from the rear of the car during heavy acceleration in turns? I noticed it this morning and it only happens when taking curves to the right. In a straight line or left curve it doesn't wobble. Any ideas?

saliv8,

Wow...I have the very same issue with my car right now.

I know exactly what you are describing. On a road with a gradual right curve, when you take it really hard, and you are on the gas quiet a bit (in vtec)...you get a thumping vibration from the rear. The harder you take the turn, the more apparent the thumping gets. And you are right...it feels like a wobble, or like your tire has a bubble on the sidewall or something.

On a straight smooth road, and you are really accelerating hard...you can feel it a little (it is very hard to detect). It's not as apparent as on a hard right turn. I can detect this best in 1st and 2nd gear on a straight.

I first noticed this when I was at the Texas World Speedway. My instructor, which has been around rear-wheel drive all his life...estimated that it is probably the hub bearing, or the rear axel cv joints.

I went home hoping that it was just a tire/wheel problem, and switched out my stock wheels with my 18 inchers. Alas...did not make a difference. The thumping was still there.

I took the car to John Eagle Honda...they did a visual inspection of the rear, and checked the differential oil for abnormally sized metal shavings...and found none. Since the service team had a hard time duplicating the problem...they couldn't rip apart my car just to snoop around. I wanted to show them myself, but there wasn't exactly a gradual curve around there that I can blast through at 70 MPH.

I guess my next move is just to rip apart the driver side suspension looking for the hub bearing. On the web, the hub bearing assembly sells for $80.

Let me know what you plan to do about your situation.

I am not really sure what to do a this point. A quick search of the forum tells me it COULD be the axles wearing. Do a search for axle and see if you think this is the same thing. I thought it might have something to do with the tires but that probably is not the case. I really hate taking my car to the dealer but might if this problem gets worse. Keep me posted...

I haven't had this problem myself, but I just noticed your posts and remembered this thread (https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=39249). I think several of those people reported the exact same problem, and it was the inner CV joint. I think the driver side was worn worse (which would explain why the right turn is more noticable, I think) but both sides did wear.

Out of curiousity, how many miles do both of you have? I think most of the people in the other thread had 30K or more.

I just glanced through the other thread, and some of them were reporting the problem in the 20k range too. This is the part number they said fixed it <quote>Correcto! That part (42320-S2A-310) installed on the driver's side is what fixed mine.</quote> I believe that is the whole half-shaft assembly. You might want to give Ron at Westside Honda a call. I've been very impressed with their service department so far. (And hey, it's still under warranty )

I know Ron well - I was just hoping not to have to have anything replaced. I guess I'll run over there next week and let them take a look. Have you met Randy yet? He is the S2k specialist over there and is pretty good.

I think I spoke to Randy when I had my 7500 mile service done, but I'm not really sure. I bought the car when I lived in Boston and moved back to TN in the fall, so I've only had one service done there. After all of the hassles I had with the Honda dealer in MA, I was very happy to find someone in Knoxville to pamper my baby
