Soft top tension bar dropes down when closing& opening
recently ordered a pair of modifry soft top straps. I installed them on how the instructions said. Now when I open or close the top the middle tension bar drops down and hits my head. The straps it had before where the original ones and they were already sagging big time, even then the tension bar would not come down when closing the top, only had to help it when opening it. Wondering if I missed something, anyone else have this problem?

In my car, that bar is wrapped with another part of the softtop - it's not exposed like yours is. I can check later.

The bar next to the one that drops on me is wrapped in some sort of Velcro pouch. But the one that sits right above my head is not. I'm sure its something that is simple because it was fine when closing even with the hanging wore out stock straps. I have reread directions and did it again. No difference.

Yours looks different than mine, i would think a top shop could fix you up. my bar has some kind of fabric on it and does not just jump, it glides into place during operation. maybe a simple way is to find someone with a s and look at them side by side.

The roof seems to be not-OEM or the roof pocket was ripped out. How long have you had this car?
Three bars across the roof. From front to back:
(1) sewn inside a roof pocket,
(2) sewn inside a roof pocket,
(3) held in place by coil springs on each side.

Like Chuck S said, there should be a roof "pocket" that goes around that bar that is attached to the roof itself so that it doesn't swing freely. I took a picture of mine above.

Looks like you have removed the pocket

A convertible top shop should be able to glue a pocket around the bar and then to the ceiling. I used the worn "sewn" in an earlier post but inspection a minute ago shows no seams in the roof where the bars are so the pockets for the first two cross bars must be glued in place.
Surprised this wasn't bouncing off your head while driving.
