Speed Bleeder thread sealant: any alternative?
Would teflon tape work, or is there an equivalent product to Speed Bleeder's red sealant that would be available in a local autoparts store?

I used teflon tape.
I sugest throwing them away and going back to stock. I never got a good bleed w/ them. |
I switched to the solo bleeders after problems with the thread sealant. They have an external valve and longer threads so they don't rely on the sealant.

Ry, I've never had a problem with Speed Bleeders for two years (no leaks, no air), and I bleed at every track event and sometimes after, so a lot. The reason I am having to replace the sealant on one is because I replaced a caliper and am reusing the old Speed Bleeder (once you remove it completely the sealant is shot). I'll try the teflon tape, thanks.

just about everyone else has had problem w/ the speed bleeders sealing :)
I get a much stiffer pedal from OEM bleeders, but yes it does require 2 people to bleed. |
I haven't had any problems with the Speed Bleeder myself, but since we have a real power bleeder now, I'm going to go back to stock. Pipe thread sealant should work fine. Put some on and let it dry.

The hardest pedal I have got on my older cars has been a reverse bleed from the Phoenix Systems V-12. It pushes the air where it wants to go - up.

i recently used a pnuemativac which is basically a mightyvac that is air powered along with teflon tape and it gave amazing pedal feel i must say.

My roommates and I just got one of these . I can't wait to try it out this weekend. The only bad part is buying the 3 gallons of ATE to fill it.

I have a Vacuum bleeder. It works great. I never got the speed bleeders to work right from the beginning so I tossed them. Stock bleeders work for me.
