SRS light on

So my SRS light is on. We can reset it, but it will turn on again after 5-10 miles of driving.

The code says it's either the SRS module, the steering reel, or the airbag itself.

I've seen sold on eBay these little resistor/capacitor LED units that you can use as a diagnostic tool. Are they reliable?

Or, if I don't go to Honda for the diagnostic, I guess its just remove and replace the steering see, SRS module, and air bags themselves?

Has anybody used one of these gizmos? Billman?

If your located somewhere near upstate ny i can read the code for you. I have a snap on scanner and a launch crp123. The launch is a relatively cheap tool that can read srs and abs codes and they go for less than $200 brand new.

You don't need to go to honda to pull the code, any shop with a decent code reader will be able to pull the srs code and tell you where the problem is.

I think I may have misspoke or misremembered. It's been about a year since we pulled the code..

I think we got the code, but it's nonspecific and points to either the airbag itself, the SRS module, or the steering reel.

To diagnose which one, you have to hook up Honda's computer to the connections for each.

There are some guys on eBay that sell an LED gizmo (with bare wires) that you can plug into each connection to figure it out as well, but you actually may need two of them to figure out which airbag. I don't know anybody who's actually done it.

I'm just not sure I trust it, unless somebody can tell me if they've used it.

Anybody used one on an S2000? Billman?

thos ewon't fix your problem, they'll just trick your module and then when you get in an accident your airbag won't deploy.

Get the code read and report back. Anyone/any shop with a decent mid-high level scanner can pull the honda srs codes and tell you exactly what it is

Checking codes doesn't tell you exactly what is wrong or needs to be replaced a lot of times. It gives you something to look at and start checking.

Something similar happened to a friend's Accord (think mid 2000s). After much fiddling & no success, he got an SRS control-module unit. Replaced and reset... think all has been ok since.

Light should go on, initially when first starting car. Then, go off.
