Angry Stock shift knob not coming off!

It looks like my "easy" console swap, is of course with my luck, a horrible hell-hole of frustration.

Apparently the previous owner (hereafter referred to as "moronic ass-****er") put some sort of extremely powerful loc-tite on the knob itself.

I was able to unscrew the lock nut, about 2 turns down on the shifter threads. This allows about a gap of 2mm between the nut and the knob. I've tried heating the knob with a hairdryer, I've tried massive gripping tools and strap wrenches, I've pretty much destroyed and removed the leather. This knob is not coming off.

Please give me some good advice before "phase 3" begins:

i had the same problem, i used locktite on my titanium knob and had trouble removing it. it is best to remove the shifter from the car and work on it outside the car. i used vice grips on the shifter and kept on twisting the knob, eventually i broke the grip of the locktite after 30 minutes

Not a bad idea pulling the shifter out... You will need more heat then a hair dryer can give if you really want to get it off without going to the extent of pulling it off... I imagine the locktite is the high strength stuff then... Dumb move... Blue Locktite at the most on something like that...

Take the console loose, then unscrew the shift boot from the bottom, you can leave the shift knob on.

yes, but the knob is damaged now - and at some point I would like to be able to replace it. It just needs to come off so I can throw it in the ocean! grr.

take the shifter out and replace it with a short throw...

if it's the red loctite you probably need a heat gun to get it hot enough to release...

Some vibrate lose, some can't be fully tightened right because of alignment issues with the gear map on the knob, etc.

But I agree, this sounds waaaaay overboard.

I don't know, but they should be shot! I finally just got the shifter out of the transmission. I am going to the store to pick up some of this PB Blaster stuff I hear is great, and some more grease to add into the bottom of the shifter when I put it back in.

Here are some pics of where I'm at. (iphone, sorry)
