Strange noise emanating from the engine

I have an

Well, could be just normal valve chatter. It could also be this little sticker inside your radiator fan. Sometimes they peel up and get hit by the radiator fan.

Also check your spark plugs and make sure they haven't come loose... that's all I got.

Wait, one more. Check your tires for large pebbles stuck in the tread or other foriegn objects.

Thanks the fan only runs intermitadley right?

The noise is constant, not sure how this relates to the plugs and it happens at idle as well so it can't be coming fro mthe tires...

Thanks for the help though...

sounds like the tensioner to me. or just normal valve tick.

by the way synthetic oil every 3000 miles? you can get THREE TIMES that many miles on synthetic oil. you shouldn't even change conventional oil every 3000 miles. that's just a waste of resources and money.

timing chain tensioner... mine sounds like what u r describing... a fast tick, tick, tick...

AustinSk2 04-19-2006 06:39 AM

the tensioner.... exactly. It is the same noise when you first start up you car? almost sounds like not enough oil? My S2000 is in the shop today to have the tensioner replaced. I would get it checked out.

my new one came in yesterday and will b installing... also, i agree with wisconsin s2k, if your using synthetic oil id at least let it go 7500-8000 miles without changing even under hard driving... get your $'s worth out of the stuff...

stitos2k 04-19-2006 06:58 AM

Considering I had to replace my tensioner you'd have thought I'd remember it.

S2KNJ 04-19-2006 07:20 AM

any risk of damage by not replacing immediately, any visual inspection that can be done to confirm?

Thanks guys!
