Default strange squeaks and the rev limiter

Hello:

3 months into ownership, of '02 s2k I have the following problem: after a long and spirited drive, say over 200-300 miles, as I come home, I start hearing an annoying and very loud squeak, coming from the front of the car. it only happens after long drives and only when the car is moving. The next morning the noise is gone. the dealer has no clue, as it is not repeatable (I have to come into the dealership right after the long drive for them to hear it, I guess). Has anyone else experienced the same problem? What tests would anyone suggest I do to get at the root of the problem? It kind of sounds like a suspension squeak.

Also:

Since owning the car I have let the rev limiter kick in a few times. Is there a problem with doing that, in terms of longevity of the engine, etc?

Thanks.

Bouncing off the rev limiter while speeding up should do no harm. That's what it's there for. A mechanical over-rev like on a downshift is a different matter.

As for the squeak that only comes after an extended trip, I would tend to think this is related to something that is heating up via friction - maybe a bad wheel bearing or a suspension piece that is heating up through extended repeated movement.

Thanks, xviper for clarification on the limiter question.
I'll have the dealer check this squeak out again.

Hey,

2x6spds has made a couple of posts reporting a similar noise in the front, you might do a search on the words "neep neep" and check out his posts and see if that sounds similar.

I have had what I think might be the same noise that only appears after my commute to work (30 miles) that is a squeak. It is audible when I am decelerating, whether I am braking or not, and it has also been a pain to reproduce in front of the service guy (although I finally just told him to wait and I took it out and drove the damn thing until I got it).

I'm still waiting for them to figure it out. Oh, and there is also a squeak that some report getting in and out of a car that is related to the upper controller arm and/or the sway bar bushings. That is NOT the same thing, as that one only squeaks once, not repeatedly, and it typically does it over speed bumps or when getting in. I know because I had that one too.

if you find anything out let me know at akopp54@yahoo.com

Make sure ALL your spring spacers have been removed. All but one of my front ones were removed, and I kept getting a strange squeaking sound which was the remaining spacer rubbing against the frame as it was hidden from view.

The noise is the hood latch. It can be adjusted in seconds. It has to grab tighter. Loosen the bolt, and lower the latching mechanism on the car. I too had this problem.
