Default Supercharging the s2000....lots of questions.

im at a dilemma...i have a 2001 s2k with about 30,000 miles...my factory warranty is gonna run out soon and i have either the choice to supercharge or get the extended warranty. My car is a daily driver. i have some questions, and awnsers will be greatly appreciated since im a newbie when it comes to superchargers.

1) From doin a search and reading through threads im seeing that alot of people say the vortec supercharger doesnt harm your engine, or in other words doesnt cause much wear and tear. is this honestly true? i dont understand how a bolt on 100hp+ wouldnt hurt the engine in some way.

2) How much faster does it feel? when you hit vtec does it slam your head into the seat? that would be great.

3)When installing the supercharger is it true you can just bolt on the kit and leave everyhting else stock, and it wont cause problems?

4)If i do decide to supercharge, what other mods would be a good idea to do? id like to have my car be a high 12, low 13 sec street car..would i need to do many other modifications to get this performance?

5)In your personal opinion is the supercharger well worth the money, in other words, is it worth having over the safety for 6-7 years on a stock engine the extended warranty would give you.

6)Ive always loved blow off valves on turbo cars...but from what ive been reading of all the problems from all the guys trying to do this...im gonna stick with the supercharger...can you get that pssshhh sound through switching gears with a good BOV with a supercharger? or do they even use BOV's?

7)Which Supercharger is more safe for the engine, Comptech or Vortec?

8)Is there any possible way to keep a warranty with a supercharger on the car? (I highly doubt it, just wondering, i remember reading in a post that someone said he got a comptech charger honda dealer installed and they still warannted his car since honda installed it)

9)With the super charger do you honestly loose any of the S2k's handling ability? that would suck.

10)How much money does an average super charger install cost?

11)Does it make your gas mileage crappy?(not a big issue, just wondering)

12)Is it necassary to get a better high performance clutch?

13)I love my S, its the best car ive ever driven and i plan to keep it for a long long time, would super charging it decrease the engines life alot? Sure the power would be badass, but if its gonna hurt my baby and kill the engines future a few years down the road i think id pass on it.

Well thats all i can think of right now...ive discussed it with my dad and he doesnt understand how a super charger doesnt put much wear and tear on the engine...and quite frankly i dont understand either...but from hearing about all the warranty problems people have.. cause honda claims owner abuse or whatever makes me skeptical about getting one of those too...im sorry if any of this stuff has been talked about over and over....ive searched and read up and these are just some major things i want to clarify with the people who know the best about it....to anyone who can help me with my questions....thanks alot.

Well...

I'm too tired to answer all of your questions, but...

The feeling when you hit VTEC is pretty nice. The first night I got the car back from getting it supercharged I took it on a mountain road here in Vancouver. Passing power was incredible compared to stock. A big, big difference. The car pulls at 5-6k what the stock S2000 does at 9.

My S2000 is Vorteched, and I would recommend Vortech over Comptech. Warrant-schmarranty.

Also, when I upgraded the pulley, I now produce what the "stock" vortech kit did at around 6000, so again, it almost makes the stock Vortech car seem "slow".

I ran my friend's stock S2000 from a 5 mph roll on out on a quiet stretch of highway and I put.... well, about a football field's worth of space on him by the top of 4th. Maybe more, hard to judge, but he was very far back.

Uhm, what else.... Oh, whatever you budget, double it, and then ask yourself if you're willing to spend that much, just in case.

p.s. 11 psi, stock engine block, 350 rwhp, runs like a top.

i'm aware that comptech sc won't void the warranty. i'm not certain about this, but i think it has to be instaled by a competent dealership to maintain the above.

i'm a comptech guy myself. i have my comptech sc and exhaust on the way now. comptech is exclusively a honda thing so they know the engine well, and they have a proven track record as a reliable system.

vortech, also a great system, looks to be in the final stages of working out all the kinks. it's also on the cheaper end. for me in AZ, i was looking at about $500 to get it installed. however, i've decided to do it myself.

There are some dealers that will sell/install Comptech aftermarket parts:

You will have added wear on the motor. How much? Who knows. There are some S2000 owners that have 60k+ on a SC motor with no problems and they are daily drivers with track time.

2) How much faster does it feel? when you hit vtec does it slam your head into the seat? that would be great.
It slams my wifes head into the seat. I've broken 8 of her hair clips so far.

Yes, this is true.

Any other mods you do will most likely require some dyno time and a wideband o2.

5)In your personal opinion is the supercharger well worth the money, in other words, is it worth having over the safety for 6-7 years on a stock engine the extended warranty would give you.
If you don't abuse it, you won't lose it.

6)Ive always loved blow off valves on turbo cars...but from what ive been reading of all the problems from all the guys trying to do this...im gonna stick with the supercharger...can you get that pssshhh sound through switching gears with a good BOV with a supercharger? or do they even use BOV's?
I have a BOV on my Comptech. It can be annoying at times because the SC is always spinning, your BOV will always be blowing off in a closed throttle. It's not a quick pssshhhtt. It's a long psssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss ssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhttttttttt tttttttt........ until you open the throttle back up.

7)Which Supercharger is more safe for the engine, Comptech or Vortec?
I used to think they were pretty equal but Vortech is doing some injector stuff with their kits now. I'm not sure exactly where they are going with it by doing that, but for an unexperienced person, it may not be the route you want to go.

8)Is there any possible way to keep a warranty with a supercharger on the car? (I highly doubt it, just wondering, i remember reading in a post that someone said he got a comptech charger honda dealer installed and they still warannted his car since honda installed it)
As I posted above, some dealers will retain the warranty. Be sure to get that in writting. Also, they cannot (well they can, they can say whatever they want) deny your warranty unless the modification you have is in direct connection with the item in question. In other words, they can't deny your warranty on a faulty window switch because you have a supercharger. However they may deny you on a differential.

9)With the super charger do you honestly loose any of the S2k's handling ability? that would suck.
A stock S2000 can lose grip in the rear. Add more power to those rear wheels and I'm sure you can figure it out. It can be compensated for with other mods.

10)How much money does an average super charger install cost?
I think they average between $500-$1500 depending on the shop you use, their experience and their reputation. I did my Comptech install one late night here at home.

11)Does it make your gas mileage crappy?(not a big issue, just wondering)
I get about 200 miles on a tank. I'm hoping to improve that once the EMS comes in and I can tune it a little better.

12)Is it necassary to get a better high performance clutch?
Some say yes, some say no. At first, my clutch smelled a bit funny. But now I have no issues with the stock clutch. Changing your clutch is no easy task, the parts alone are pricy (relative) but the install is also time consuming.

[QUOTE]13)I love my S, its the best car ive ever driven and i plan to keep it for a long long time, would super charging it decrease the engines life alot?

I'm curious. What kind of mods should I get to help the 'rear wheels' stick to the pavement since there's too much power in the rear?

Hey 3, thanks for sharing the info. I just spoke to our local dealer and he says that they do not warranty the car with the S/C. I don't know if this is just this particular dealer or what but FYI.

I have a question though. Would you have the S/C installed before delivery or do you think it would be wise to break the motor in for a few hundred/thousand miles before installing the air pump?

Larger, wider wheels. I'm still on OEM wheels and tires and they spin quite freely if you push it hard enough in the lower gears.
