tape over painted frame around the windshield?
I have a 2001 GP White S2K. I told by another S2K member that the outside frame around my windshield is already painted white and is just covered by strips of black tape. Is that true? If so, whats the best way to take off the tape without damaging the paint underneath the tape?

Just put "windshield tape" in the search function and you'll get many many threads with pictures, pro's and con's of this mod. I"ve put two links here for you, but there are about 100 on this subject.

I just took the tape off my Spa today. It looks great. You don't really have to worry about damaging the paint from pulling the tape off. That doesn't mean however there isn't already damage to the painted surface there. One member reported finding an 8" scratch under his tape. Personally I think it looks amazing with the tape removed.
To remove it, open the doors and look where the windshield frame meets the body. It should now be obvious that the tape is there. Just start picking at it until you get a hold of a large enough piece. Try to get the tape off in whole pieces (there are 3 separate strips of tape). Pull it off smoothly and slowly without stopping to minimize the adhesive residue. Use bug and tar remover to remove the residue once the tape is off. It took me about 45 minutes from start to finish and it looks 100% better.

When you remove the tape, don't remove it too quickly or you will leave the tape residue on the frame. When I removed mine, the first two sections were fine and then I got in a hurry and made a real mess to clean up. I suggest either a warm day or a hair drier to warm the tape up before removing it.
I had a small area under my tape that appeared to be sanded with a very fine grit paper. I was able to use my 3M Swirl Mark Remover and get the shine back with no trouble. It's nothing to worry about. I think that it was more than worth the effort.
