There is a new oil filter just for our car!
#4
I work at Acura and have been getting my oil changed there for about a year. Should I be worried because I have been using the PLM-A01 or 02 filters or is this the same filters Honda dealers have been using until now? I haven't had a problem yet with the old filters.

Hmmmm, thanks for the heads up.
I contacted my dealer; so far that part number does not show up in their system. My guy will keep checking so when it does show up I can order some new filters.
I really wonder what the difference is! Honda would not do this unless there was a good reason; it is their way to have the fewest number of different oil filters as possible......

Here is what I found out.
HONDA CARS IN GENERAL - NOT THE S2000:
Honda has made a new smaller oil filter and they have been using it on most of their new models. They are in the early stages of phasing out the old larger filter.
S2000 SPECIFICALLY:
My dealer has known about this new part number for about a week, but has so far not been able to order any. As soon as they come in I will get the call. He has read the Honda Bulletin, but said he was still not clear why they will have a new filter. It is not clear if they are going with the new smaller size filter, or have developed a new larger one like the filter we have been currently using. He also has no idea how the internals may be different.
CONCLUSION:
I still don't know much about the new filter, but Colin is 100% right, there is a new oil filter coming soon for our car.

I have been using the Japanese HAMP filters ($9) and have found the the Nissan oil filter for a 1996-1999 ($6) I30 is identical to the HAMP and is JAPANESE MADE like the HAMP and the orig. filter that comes on the S2000!! The problem I have with the factory Honda stuff is the replacements they sell in parts are usually rebadged Fram filters which I won't use due to the plastic valve inside (instead of metal). I have now found easy access to a teriffic filter. PT
