Ticking at idle only in cabin
#21
I have the same noise and have been searching forever.
00, 50k miles.
Done so far.
TCT (billman)
Multiple valve adjustments
Oil change.
Took belt off the pulleys
Can only hear it in the cabin. Seemed to start off as a almost in and out "wobble" ticking noise.
Colder weather is here and now is sounds like a constant tick.
I can hear it when I rev the car for the first few hundred RPM's and then it gets drown out or disappears.
I do a lot of short distance driving and noticed it sounded fainter after a longer drive. I have not revved it out at all or done a long sprint yet to confirm.
When I put the car on a lift and ran it it almost sounded like the noise was coming from the passenger side by the headers/trans. Was hard to tell with the normal engine noises.
Almost thinking its a clutch/pressure plate issue as I also get a little shuddering/grinding noise sometimes when Im a little slower with the clutch. (almost like a gurgle)

Not sure why I didn't think of that, maybe it is a clutch or pressure plate noise. Either way, I've revved mine out several time to redline since and it hasn't blown up. I'm just going to enjoy it now and not worry.

Has anyone checked the fuel pump? I started to hear a ticking on my previous car and it was the fuel pump (located under the rear seat on the driver side). The pump failed not long after it started.

How you found the solution? I have the same problem and so far I've adjusted the valves, changed spark plugs, tried seafoaming (intake, gas tank, oil) then fresh oil change Mobil1 5w to 10w with no resolution.

I'll keep diagnosing the car and will let you know if I find something. I've done most of the things you've done as well to no avail. Please let me know if you find the solution before me. Thanks!

I'm kicking myself that I didn't save it, however I found a response somewhere that someone did some digging and found the culprit. It was something to do with the heater and the car getting up to temp and completely normal. I always see (and notice myself) lots more of these posts crop up when the weather starts getting cold. My car only does it from November to March roughly and I've only ever seen the cabin tick at idle mentioned during the winter months. I'm going to keep digging and see if I can find the explanation, but I remember at the time being convinced that it made sense and was indeed normal.
