Ticking Noise (Video In Thread)
Hello Everyone,
I recently purchased this 2002 s2000 with about 140k miles on it. Has had some mods done...and I'm not a super car guy. Trying to learn though. Have four questions:
1. Does anyone know what that bar that's on top of everything and spans the width of the engine does? What is it called?
2. What's with the ticking? Oil was a little low, nothing too bad. Added to spec and the ticking is the same...TCT or valves? I can't tell the difference
.
3. Is this intake (K&N) any good? looks to be the lifetime filter...idk.
4. The car keeps bottoming out at speed and bumps. How do I know if the car has been lowered? I will buy new wheels and tires as the old ones are pretty busted.
Thanks so much everyone! Video is at: S2000 Video

That is a strut tower bar. Some people say it does nothing and some say it tightens up the front end.
As for the ticking its very possible its the TCT. I can't tell from my phone.
Your car must be lowered. You should not bottom out at speed in normal driving conditions.

Did anyone ever find out what it is?
I was driving today and heard a ticking. But it was only and loudest (when i say loudest the ticking was still faint) around 3,000 rpms. I punched it a little to see if it would continue and it stopped. Kolyan2k is a lot louder I think. I just started my s2k up to see what it sounds like and it sounds a little like the OP. Ticking might be there. I don't know if I'm really hearing it or just to anal and scared of something going wrong.

it's definitely the TCT, the F20 is prone to the TCT wearing out after a certain amount of time. Billman sells a modded TCT, and he is an S2000 god! definitely message him and get the pricing, it's a fairly simple replacement. i'm having the same problem with my s2000, but it started just before i deployed, and i can only replace it when i get back
here is the link to his website, and the instructions

if you don't want to buy a new one from billman, here is a DIY to fix it yourself

Is their a ticking sound in mine too? Or am i losing it. Tell me this is how a normal s2000 sounds.
My S2000
I noticed a ticking and so did my friend while driving today around 3,000 rpms. I punched it a little and shortly the ticking was gone. I have no idea. I did do an oil change and had to fill up a little more oil when i came home because it was on the lower side. 02 with 35k miles.
