you'll want to cut them in half.

If I am replacing the stock springs and going with the kg/mm race springs, do I need a spring tool to compress them?

Yes! You might be able to borrow one from your local parts store, but go check now, as they're usually booked out a few weeks/months.

Exactly how much do I have to compress the springs prior to releasing them from the strut? I don't want to loose a finger or anything

flyellow, do you have a friend helping? You have to compress the spring just enough so there isn't much pressure once you get the top locknut off. If you have help, you might be able to get it pressed down enough. If you're by yourself, I really doubt you can do it without a spring compressor. BTW, did you get your springs from where I suggested?

thanks for the tip. I have a spring compressor on it now, just did not have any idea how compressed they needed to be.

I was going with them, even contacted Ben. But found a great deal on H&R springs locally, and really cheap. thanks!

Cool! The tension should be low enough that just before you get the lock nut off, you will feel the lock nut coming off easier. If it's still hard to get off, be careful!
Let me know if you need anything else.
