Default Too good to be true Gripforce clutch kit?

2000-2009 Honda S2000 2.0L 2.2L Clutch Kit OEM Genuine Pressure Plate Exedy Disc

Take a look. 275$ to have the OEM throwout and pilot bearing as well as exedy clutch disks seems to be priced ridiculously well.

Are these real OEMs or OE "equivalents"? Does anyone know?

I wouldn't trust any OEM clutch part for the s2000. Exedy is an original equipment manufacturer for Honda so they are not lying about that. Exedy aftermarket clutches have failed time after time on s2ks. If you want OE clutch reliability then I would recommend OES parts. This means buying the actual part that would be used from the factory.

NONE of the OEM S2000 clutch parts are made by Exedy

Oem disc is made by FCC, not exedy. It is not oem equivalent, as its design is also completely different.

Another manufacturer trying to sell a lie. Even though they are not actually lying about anything, they are implying the oem parts are made by exedy when they are not.

The OEM FCC disc is only available through Honda, as far as we know.

Don't waste your money, you're better off just getting a new OEM disk, release and pilot bearing, and then just re-surface the PP and flywheel. Probably costs the same, and will last longer than this kit will ever hope to. Notice how the clutch disk springs aren't shrouded, they'll rattle like a pissed off desert snake at all times before one breaks and takes out one or more pressure plate fingers. Either that or the release bearing will fail in ~20k miles. For your peace of mind, go OEM, as in it came in a bag that says Honda, and the OEM part number, anything else is a Vegas style gamble.

I noticed that the springs aren't shrouded. However, the pressure plate, and bearings alone might make this kit worth purchasing. FCC is the Japanese maker for the pressure plate and they said their piece is made by FCC.

The real question is whether the two bearings (worth about 140-150) if they ARE OEM.

The OEM bearings are the only ones you should even think of using. A new OEM disk and bearings costs about $260 + another $60 to get the PP and flywheel resurfaced and you're done. Usually the PP is indestructible. Just use the right grease and it's guaranteed to go another 100k miles. That Gripforce kit will never do that ever.

Your car, and you can do as you please, but the only choice that lasts is OEM.

Thos is the question you should ask yourself. Is it worth the risk of having to drop trans again in 20k miles if those parts are not really oem, just to save maybe $100?

The clutch disk itself you already know is not, its junk. But even if the bearings and pp are marked as FCC made, what if they are counterfeit parts? To me its not worth the risk, as dropping trans is not fun. But your acceptable risk level might be different. But remember the rule, The House Always Wins...

I am currently running that combo from grip force. I swapped out the bearings for oem honda bearings that i purchased from my local honda dealer. The bearings the kit provided were not oem honda bearings. Other than that, this kit has been great so far. Feels and drives like stock, with slightly a bit more clutch buzz than the oem honda disk . For the price its pretty good. No regrets here so far. Consider about a $200 savings over Honda.

If you used the disk that came in the kit, its a ticking timebomb and will only last 20k-30k miles. Maybe you don't put on many miles and are ok with that. But just be aware that is what you are in for.

One of the springs will break out and fall into the works, jamming clutch so you can't disengage. Hopefully it'll start acting up and making noise for a while so you don't breakdown roadside.

You'll never wear the disk out, a spring will fail long before it ever gets to that. So feel free to slip it all you want (but don't be too rough on it, that could make spring fail sooner).
