Quick question for you guys. I noticed my radiator is leaking at the top. All around the radiator. I know it needs to be replaced. But I wanna if you guys have any idea what cause it.

From what I can see the radiator itself does not have any damage or been hit at all. Is seams like the top of the radiator just gave out. THe weird thng is, is that the car doesn't even come close to overhearting.

i seen alot of radiators leak like that.. if it is the same from what is seen.. the radiator is not all one piece. the middle section being aluminum and the top part is plastic . the clamps that hold the two together gave.. or whatever puts the together..

 

The radiator tank on our car is made of plastic. When plastic is repeated heated and cooled, it will deteriorate over time and crack. This is becoming very common as the s2ks out there age.

You can get a new oem and it will last another 7-8yrs or you can get an all metal radiator, like a Koyo, that will last "forever".

 

yeah Im gonna go with a KOYO or a MISHIMOTO unit. Am I being a little crazy or should I NOT change the hoses, thermo, and fan switch.


My buddy told me the hoses arn't bad or swollen so why replace them ?


My thinking is I have to mess with the hoses, might as well change them two

 

If the hoses don't need it...I wouldn't bother. Since you live in SoCal, the fan switch might not be a bad idea. The thermostat would also be helpful for you, but it will take a bit more work...the housing is under the intake manifold and is a little difficult to reach.

 

I have the leak and needs to replace the radiator too,
does anybody have any comment on Spoon radiators?

 

I replaced mine for the same reason.

Unless you've got other mods that would somehow "benefit" from all metal, OEM is more than adequate and will save you cash.

 

OEM price is almost the same as the spoon one.

You can get a MISHIMOTO for around $290.00 For $25 more go with that, and why your in the cooling system flush and replace your hoses if they have not been replaced. It wont hurt...
