Default Transmission Buzz TSB Warranty Goodwill Considerat

I'm new to the S2000 community. I purchased a 2001 S2000 several days ago. During test drive, I had the top down and the seller kept talking to me, so transmission noise didn't seem very loud at the time. When I asked the previous owner about the transmission noise during the test drive, he said that it's been like that since he's owned it (he's the first owner), so it is normal. Now that I've driven it for a few days, the transmission noise seems a lot louder and doesn't seem normal at all. I can hear the transmission buzzing noise during deceleration in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear! I don't think what I'm experiencing is normal, because most AP1 owners experienced this issue in 3rd and 4th gear only. I did research through the forum and found several posts and TSB related to this issue.

The car is now 9-10 yrs old. I have a feeling Honda wouldn't repair it under goodwill consideration since the car is so old. I want to know if any AP1 owners have experience getting it fixed through TSB while the car is out of warranty? If so, how did you get Honda to fix your tranmission problem? Should I give my local Honda dealership a call and see if they would fix it? If Honda wouldn't fix it under goodwill consideration, is my only option to change out the clutch?

My buzz happens engine braking from 2.5-3k. Doesn't seem to be gear related but rather RPM. I just put up with it.

I think what Honda was fixing was something to do with a rattling clutch plate, what you are hearing might be the rear gears which are noisy.

I had that problem in my first (MY 2000) car, and it was indeed from the clutch plate. The symptom you describe, loud buzz under deceleration is very typical. The problem occurred in all 2000 and some 2001 cars, finally fixed properly in 2002. The clutch was replaced under warranty in my car, but it was within the 3-36 warranty period and I was the original owner. You can either live with it, or replace the clutch yourself, but I doubt that Honda will do a goodwill job on a car so old. How many miles are on the car? If the number is high enough, or if the previous owner(s) slipped the clutch a lot, it may be worth doing anyway.

Goodwill consideration on a 10 year old car is not going to happen. They didn't build them with a lifetime warranty.

You want them to replace a wear part on a 9-year old car as a "Goodwill" repair.

Ya my '01 buzzes in all gears its just RPM and speed i'm going etc. I found the secret to fixing it!! GReddy Ti-C Turbo!! But hey i know what your saying, i'm willing to bet it just seems louder because your alone, your radio is off etc. I think too that the S as minimal insulation and metal surrounding the cabin so it resonates more inside.

The motor has about 39K and chassis about 65K. I see what you guys are saying. Thanks for making me feel better about my purchase. For a day or two, I thought I bought a lemon. I'm going to change out the clutch and see if that make any difference. BTW I don't expect Honda to fix it under goodwin, that was more like wishful thinking. Again thanks for the feedback guys.
