they should be .010.

I have always recommended all s2ks get the valves adjusted at 10k miles on the odometer, and 75K intervals after that. The damage may be done on this one, but so far so good. We may have caught it in time.

I recommend all s2ks ESPECIALLY ap2 to have their valves professionally inspected and adjusted.
Hey Billman, quick question. I live in the Turlock area in California. Is there a place close that you would recommend I take my car to get my valves adjusted?

I am in Sacramento, try Driving Ambition in Rancho Cordova, they do only NSXs and S2000s. Not always there, keep trying, track and race a lot.

Did a valve adjustment on my 2008 CR @ 140k and could not gett the .20mm feeler between the adjustment screw and the valve stem... Every 2006+ I have touched has tight exhaust valves...

Soviet... about how long to you go between checking valve clearance? Do the exhaust valves tighten up, in short order, after the initial adjustments?

Much thanks!

I don't have enough miles on one car to make a meaningful statement. 35k on one car (gone), 15k one one car, and only 5k on the CR. I would trust in Billman's suggested interval of 50k. I will keep an eye on the CR exhaust valves though.

Had a customer last week, 2008 year, did his valves previously at 80k. Did them again this time at 115k. One exhaust valve had tightened up to .008. This is .003 tighter in 35k miles.

I estimate that the prolonged period of 80k with no adjustment is responsible.

Valves can undergo what I call a re-polish. Basically the valve can cure itself over time, provided they clearance is maintained.

All 2006-2009 owners should have their exhaust valves adjusted out to .012..

The burn rate accelerates as clearance lessens. In other words, a valve currently set at .012 is safer, for a longer period, than a valve at .011.

Billman, thanks for update. I adjusted my 2007 exhaust side to a loose 0.011 inch, too. Prolly closer to 0.012. I'll try to check it later this summer.

Are you still recommending ap1 owners set exhaust valves to .010? I may do it this weekend so I just want to be sure about that. I'm at appox. 20K miles. Runs beautifully.

i can confirm alot of honda dealerships fail at valve adjustments.
3 hondas in a row clearances were way out of spec even though were adjusted by the dealer within a year of me buying the cars
