Default Valve Cover Differences ?

Hello anyone/all!

Can anyone inform me on the differences on these valve covers? The first one (mine) seems to have the "opening/hole" ((towards the middle), blanking on an appropriate word) on the base of the cover as opposed to the second one (new) which has the "opening/hole" on the wall of the cover.
Can anyone help me out? The new one was labeled as (12310-PCX-010 OEM)
Would appreciate some insight

Thanks!

You have a 99-03 cover and the new one is a 04-05. The difference in holes you noticed is for the PCV valve which are different between the two. The valve covers are interchangeable as long as you get the correct PCV valve to go along with it.

On the first generation of valve covers, it is said that the postion of the PCV valve is not optimal and contributes to the oil consumption of the Engines. The PCV valve sucks oil into it in the upright postion.
Honda has adressed it and changed the position of the PCV valve on the later valve covers for this reason. Use the newer valve cover with the correct PCV valve and you are fine and have done a little upgrade.

Some people install the PCV valve by itself, I like to use a drain plug crush washer between the valve and the cover.

How interesting, can you share the reasoning behind this approach? Ease of future removal?

It leaks oil, I just use one to avoid that. Plus the manual says to do it. I cannot think on my own, so I just listen to the manual.
